It is kind of disappointing to learn that wineries would put out tip jars. Just seems low class to me. I get tired of seeing tip jars everywhere. It's not that I mind tipping, but to see it expected at every turn is kind of off putting. To Insure Proper Service remember? Not just because you got of your phone to do your actual job for 5 whole minutes.
Silas, And tipping shouldn't be necessary for the waiter/waitress to be able to survive. They should be paid (at least) enough to get by, and I'll gladly tip when service is above what is in their job description.
Hessy, A server relying on tips is similar to a salesman relying on commissions in that neither would even try to satisfy the customers without the incentive to make good money.
Tip your servers, and tip well if they are awesome. Don't be cheap.
